Law & Performing Arts

Performing arts (or the performing arts) are those whose purpose is the performance of a work in front of an audience (such as music, dance, theatre, circus arts, etc.).

We are in the realm of cultural activities where a range of creations and performances are subject to protection by intellectual property law: the work (novel or composition); the derivative work (adaptation or arrangement); the performances (actors, musicians, or dancers); the entrepreneurial performances (producers, publishers, or broadcasting organisations); and also industrial exclusives (show trademarks, designs or models for props, patents on musical instruments); etc.

In addition to the issues surrounding intellectual property, organising performing arts events also involves the legal framework of employment or service contracts for artistic activities, public licensing, or the fiscal framework of cultural activities.

This project aims to address the legal aspects related to the creation and organisation of performing arts events, from a broad perspective, open to the concerns and needs of its stakeholders
