Digital Death – issues of personhood and property

The transition of our personal, social, and professional lives to the digital environment extends beyond our lifetime.

Increasingly, we leave a trace on the internet that persists after the death of its creators.

We also leave behind an ever-growing digital legacy, consisting of documents, photographs, videos, personal and family memories, hosted by online service providers.

This ‘digital footprint’ confronts us with new legal, philosophical, psychological, and sociological questions about our relationship with death.

This project aims to promote a multidisciplinary perspective to identify and debate the issues that arise in each of the digital contexts concerning death.
