On 28 April, the University of Maastricht organized a debate among the candidates for “European Commission President” in the European Parliament elections entitled “First European Presidential Debate”.
Students of the Masters in Law of the European Union and of the Degree in Law of the University of Minho formulated questions that were transmitted to the candidates during the debate with the indication of their provenance.
They are in the race to replace Durão Barroso: Luxemburgese Jean Claude Juncker (for the popular), German Martin Schulz (for socialists), Belgian Guy Verhofstadt (for the liberals), Greek Alexis Tsipras (for the unitary left), and French José Bové and the German Ska Keller (by the Greens).
The debate was broadcast live on April 28th, starting at 6:00 p.m., in Room 009 of the Law School of the University of Minho – which was followed by a discussion / working session among those present regarding the proposals presented.
The initiative was supported by the Center for the Study of European Union Law (CEDU) and the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law.
