The radio programme “O Estado da União” for the month of March was dedicated to the preparation of the “Conference on the Future of Europe” – which will be launched on May 9, 2021 and whose work will extend until the Spring of 2022. On last March 10, the Presidents of Parliament, the Council and the Commission signed the “Joint Declaration” on the Conference – which consists of a series of debates promoted by European citizens, aimed at shaping a common future. The format of the interactions acquires ample plasticity in pandemic circumstances. A multilingual interactive platform is being developed. Public authorities and civil society are called upon to organize events that involve as many stakeholders as possible.
Apart from the intervention of Alessandra Silveira, resident commentator at the program and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law at UMinho, this episode counted on the participation of Sofia Colares Alves (Head of the European Commission Representation in Portugal), Pedro Valente da Silva (Head of the European Parliament Office in Portugal) and Regina Bastos (National Coordinator of the Conference on the Future of Europe).
