The transition of our personal, social, and professional life into the digital environment is reflected beyond our lifetime.
More and more, we leave behind a lasting trail on the Internet that endures after the death of its creators. We also leave behind an increasingly significant digital legacy, consisting of documents, photographs, videos, personal and family memories, hosted by online service providers.
This “digital footprint” confronts us with new legal, philosophical, psychological, and sociological questions about our relationship with death. This project therefore aims to promote a multidisciplinary approach to identify and discuss the problems arising in each digital context concerning death.
This project, which will span a two-year period, intends to organize a series of open-access workshops, addressing various themes related to the personal and property issues associated with digital death. At the conclusion of the project, a collective publication will be produced, bringing together the contributions made and reflecting the ongoing discussion throughout this period.
