Project Description
EULITA Conference | March 15th
The International Conference on Legal Interpretation and Translation in the Context of the EU: Perspectives and Challenges took place at the University of Minho, on the premises of the Law School, on March 15, 2013. This scientific meeting of international relevance in the field of legal interpretation and translation was born out of a joint initiative between BabeliUM (University of Minho Language Center) and CEDU (European Union Law Studies Center) and entered into a series of interdisciplinary meetings on a European scale, called TRAFUT (Training for the Future), within the sphere of intervention of the EULITA (European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association).
Based on Directive 2010/64 / EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2010 (on the right to interpretation and translation in criminal proceedings) and Directive 2012/29 / EU of the European Parliament and of the Council , of 25 October 2012 (on the rights, support and protection of crime victims), and clearly located in a privileged area of intersection between Language and Law, the initiative aimed to focus the debate in the Portuguese context, in addition to to provide a forum for reflection and dialogue on the many issues associated with the professional training, framework, status and recognition of the provision of quality services in this area so essential for the proper functioning of justice in the rule of law – and in a legal Union.
