Ep. 13 – Law in Lusophone Countries
With the aim of discussing old and uncovering new challenges for the legal world, contributing to the development of new lines of scientific research, the “Quid Juris Podcast” was created.
This is a project by the School of Researchers at 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐆𝐨𝐯 –Research Center for Justice and Governance, at the 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 of the University of Minho, where, periodically, a prominent professional is invited to open the discussion on trending topics in the legal world.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Congress on Law in Lusophony, dedicated to the theme “The Current Challenges to Human Rights and the Role of Portuguese-Speaking Countries and Regions. A Balance, 10 Years Later…”, as well as the commemoration of the World Portuguese Language Day, we turn our attention to “Law in Lusophone Countries.” In a conversation with two jurists from Lusophone countries, we attempt to understand the role of Portuguese language, tradition, culture, customs, and law within the Lusophone community, seeking to explore points of contact and divergence among the various countries in this community.
Professor Sabá Vicente da Silva is a lecturer at G.R. Karé College of Law in Goa, where he previously served as Director, and Chairman of the Law Studies Council at the University of Goa. Between 1994 and 2001, he held the position of Chief Biochemist at the Directorate of Health Services of the Government of Goa. Professor Sabá Vicente da Silva has authored several national and international publications, in areas including criminal law, tax law, international law, research methodology, and law and social change.
Professor Clara Calheiros is a lecturer at the Law School of the University of Minho and an integrated researcher at JusGov.
Holding a Law degree and Master’s from the University of Coimbra and a PhD in Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Professor Clara Calheiros is the author of several national and international publications in the fields of legal theory, philosophy of law, and the history of thought. Among the various roles she has undertaken at the Law School, she notably served as President from 2014 to 2019.
