During Science and Technology Week, held from 24 to 30 November 2025, science once again takes centre stage.

This nationwide initiative of Ciência Viva – the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture aims to bring scientists closer to the public by showcasing who they are, the work they do, and their contributions to the advancement of knowledge and to society’s well-being. Hundreds of science outreach activities are organised by research institutions, universities, schools, museums, and science centres across the country.

Lectures, exhibitions, conferences, science cafés, and hands-on experimental activities are just some of the initiatives designed for the public—especially younger audiences—who thus have the opportunity to engage directly with the scientific community and learn about some of the most recent research findings across multiple fields.

JusGov – Research Centre for Justice and Governance of the School of Law of the University of Minho joins this initiative once again, organising five events throughout the Week, two of which—for the first time—in partnership with the Planetarium – Braga House of Science (Braga Ciência Viva Centre).

Science and Technology Week also encompasses the National Day of Scientific Culture, celebrated on 24 November in honour of Rómulo de Carvalho—teacher, poet, and science communicator—who was born on this date. Created in 1996, the National Day of Scientific Culture gave rise, the following year, to the annual celebration we now know as Science and Technology Week.
