As part of JusGov’s research project Portuguese Social Security Litigation—coordinated by Joaquim Freitas da Rocha and featuring Andreia Barbosa, Artur Flamínio da Silva, Carlos José Batalhão, Hugo Flores da Silva, Luís Manuel Pica, Márcia Antunes Gomes, Sara Luís Dias, and Tiago Lopes de Azevedo on the team—, a dedicated hearing was held on 24 November 2025 at the School of Law of the University of Minho, gathering members of the project team and representatives from the Legal Support Unit and the Directorate Support Unit of the Social Security (Braga regional centre). The session aimed to assess the main challenges arising within the field of Social Security litigation.

The extensive and deeply rooted professional experience of the Social Security officials involved proved highly valuable to the consolidation of the project’s ongoing research path. The discussion highlighted, in particular, weaknesses in the applicable legal and regulatory framework, as well as recurrent areas of dispute that the academic community must understand and help to address.

This hearing clearly reflects the commitment of the JusGov community to strengthening the vital links between academic research and professional practice, reaffirming our Centre’s role as a catalyst of applied legal knowledge. By grounding analysis in the concrete challenges faced by the Portuguese Social Security system, the project seeks to foster contributions that ultimately enhance effectiveness, transparency, and justice in Social Security litigation.
