The book “650 Anniversary of the Luso-British Alliance” marks two symbolic dates in the foundation of the Luso-British Alliance: the signing of the Treaty of Tagilde (10 July 1372) and the Treaty of London (16 June 1373). It brings together 28 experts from 10 universities (University of Minho, Oxford, Alabama, Lisbon, Nova University of Lisbon, Catholic University, Évora, Autonomous University, Lusófona, and Coimbra) and the UK National Archives, who contribute decisively to a contemporary, holistic, and multidisciplinary reflection on the Luso-British Alliance.
Throughout its 657 pages, this work explores over six centuries of Luso-British friendship, from its origins to the current challenges and opportunities it faces, drawing from various fields of knowledge (Law, History, Literature, International Relations, and Musicology). The final chapter includes two speeches delivered by His Excellency the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Admiral António Silva Ribeiro, and His Excellency the British Ambassador to Portugal, Christopher Sainty, at the closing session of the interdisciplinary conference of the same name, organized by JusGov and the School of Law of the University of Minho in association with Portugal-UK 650 (6–9 July 2022). These speeches reflect on the continuity between the past and future of this Alliance through military and political pillars.
The scientific coordination of the work was carried out by Alexandra M. Rodrigues Araújo, João Sérgio Ribeiro, Marco Gonçalves, and Mário Ferreira Monte.
