The “Quid Juris Podcast” was created with the purpose of discussing old and uncover new challenges for the legal world, contributing to the development of new lines of scientific research.
This is a project of the Research School of JusGov – Research Center for Justice and Governance, of the Law School of the University of Minho, in which, periodically, a personality with an outstanding professional career is invited to open the discussion on important issues in the legal world.
Sports law has assumed an increasingly relevant and prominent role in the legal landscape, being repeatedly called upon to respond to society’s current challenges. In a conversation dedicated to sports law, we try to discover the main novelties and concerns faced by this rapidly expanding branch of law. Issues concerning ethics, transparency, respect and inclusion are also touched upon in our debate dedicated to the world of sport.
For “The Brave World of (Sports) Law” we invited Alexandre Miguel Mestre and José Miguel Nora, who brought us a pragmatic and experienced view of the main issues arising in this field.
Alexandre Miguel Mestre is a Lawyer, a university lecturer at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (where he coordinates the Post-Graduate degree in Sports Law), at the Rio Maior Sports School and at the Football Business Academy. He also integrates several entities/organizations associated to the sports world, among which the Aquatics Integrity Unit of FINA/World Athletics, the Governance and Compliance Commission of UEFA and the International Committee Pierre de Coubertin. Our guest has already assumed functions as Secretary of State for Sports and Youth and is the author of several books and scientific articles, mainly in the areas of Sports Law and Olympism.
Dr. José Miguel Nora is the current President of the Board of the Portuguese Association of Sports Law, is a Lawyer and Consultant, Arbitrator of the Parity Arbitration Commission of the Portuguese Professional Football League and the Professional Football Players Union and member of the National Sports Council. Our guest is a regular presence in various media, as a columnist for the Record newspaper and as a commentator for legal matters on Sport TV.
