A research team led by our GLOB‘s researcher António Cândido de Oliveira, with the collaboration of other members of the Association for Regional and Local Legal Studies (AEDREL), is preparing to present the fourth edition of the Yearbook of Municipal Assemblies. This study provides a systematic analysis of Portuguese municipal deliberative bodies, examining their composition, working conditions, and democratic performance.

The 2024 Yearbook addresses themes such as gender and generational representation, the material resources available to municipal assemblies, the functioning of democratic oversight mechanisms, and the degree of compliance with existing legal frameworks. It also advances legislative proposals aimed at strengthening equality, accountability, and the effectiveness of local democracy.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the JusGov community to bridging academic research and democratic practice, ensuring that scientific knowledge contributes to the renewal and resilience of local institutions.
