The award session took place last Tuesday, December 13th. Promoted by the Rectory with the research centres, the Prize has allowed, over the last few months, undergraduate and first-year integrated Master’s students to develop scientific projects as part of research teams of recognized merit.

Under the scope of the Research Centre for Justice and Governance (JusGov), our students Maria João Pires Vaz e Ana Rita Fernandes Monteiro presented projects developed within JusGov, under the Humanities and Social Sciences-Panel 1. Patrícia Soares presented a poster.

Ana Rita Fernandes Monteiro – «The Digitalisation of Competition Justice: a reflection» (supervisor Prof.ª Doutora Joana Covelo de Abreu);

Maria João Pires Vaz –  «Critical analysis of the Proposal for a Regulation on Artificial Intelligence: considerations on biometric identification systems in particular» (supervisor Prof.ª Doutora Sónia Moreira);

Patrícia Andreia Cunha da Silva de Araújo Soares – «Sustainable development and taxation – the jurisprudential approach» (supervisor Prof. Doutor João Sérgio Ribeiro).

Maria João Pires Vaz won the Prize. The project developed consisted in the analysis of the previous results of the research already carried out by the research team of the AI & Robotics Project, and discussing possible solutions and new proposals for legislation in the field of AI, since AI poses enormous challenges to Law in many areas, most of the actions of autonomous agents are not regulated and the EU has already presented a Proposal for a Regulation in this area, which is important to scrutinize in order to determine its adequacy and (un)completeness.

JusGov congratulates all students for their participation, as well as the project’s team.
