Synopsis This paper aims to provide a comprehensive and illuminating framework for a particular segment of Portuguese public law: the Financial Law of Local Authorities, understood as the set of legal rules that have as their object the financial activity of these. As we shall try to demonstrate, local financial law thus conceived aims to call in a segment of autonomy the contributions provided by financial law, on the one hand, and local law, on the other.
