The project “Digital Death – issues of personhood and property” sought to promote a multidisciplinary reflection on the personal and patrimonial issues which, across the various digital contexts, arise upon the death of the homo digitalis: the digital footprint, as the enduring memory of an electronic expression of our personality, confronts us with new philosophical, psychological, sociological, and also legal questions in our relationship with death; the digital estate, as a universality of digitised assets capable of constituting a significant part of our patrimony, likewise raises issues relating to succession, taxation, and property.
