UMINHO / UNIVALI
Imbued with the spirit of solidarity and co-responsibility that should guide scientific and academic activity, the University of Minho / Braga / Portugal and the University of Vale do Itajaí / Santa Catarina / Brazil have signed a cooperation protocol in the field of teaching and postgraduate research in Law, with the intention of pursuing the following:
1- Joint research projects with the aim of producing scientific papers and publications;
2- Conducting conferences and seminars alternately in both universities involved
3- Creation of a shared chair, entitled “European Union Law and Transnationality – UMINHO / UNIVALI Chair”, carried out by professors of both institutions and ministered alternately in each of said universities.
Within the framework of this partnership, a double degree agreement was established between the University of Minho and the University of the Vale do Itajaí, in force from the academic year 2013/2014, under which students of the Masters in Law of the European Union can attend curricular units and receive a Master’s degree from the aforementioned Brazilian university. In the same way and for the same purposes, Brazilian students are accepted in the Masters in Law of the European Union of the University of Minho.
In the academic year 2009/2010, the Law School of the University of Minho offered to the students of the 2nd cycle a series of seminars integrated in the mentioned Chair. This project of research and postgraduate education in Law was financed by Jean Monnet Actions (the most prestigious sources of funding in the field of research in European Union law, as they are supported by the European Commission), which confirms its excellence. This chair was coordinated by Profª. Dr. Alessandra Silveira and with the collaboration of internationally recognized researchers, especially the University of Vale do Itajaí / Brazil, partner of the University of Minho in this project that has become an extraordinary example of good practice in the field of international scientific cooperation.
