East / West Conferences: Seminar with Sudeep Chakravarti | May 13th

As part of the East / West Conference cycle, the Human Rights – Interdisciplinary Research Center received last May 13, the Indian writer Sudeep Chakravarti, who visited UM for the first time and presented a Communication on “India and the Ring of Fire: Wounds of Democracy and Development”.

Sudeep Chakravarti is a writer of fiction and essays, independent journalist and commentator on issues related to socio-political and security issues in South Asia. His novels Tin Fish and The Avenue of Kings, as well as his essays on the social and political tensions in contemporary India – Red Sun: Travels in Naxalite Country and Highway 39: Journeys through a Fractured Land – were acclaimed by the critics. Currently is preparing a new book on economics and human rights, to be published in July this year by HarperCollins. As a journalist, Sudeep Chakravarti worked several years at The Asian Wall Street Journal. Was Executive Director at the India Today Group and was responsible for launching the Indian edition of Rolling Stone magazine. His work as a journalist has known a very wide distribution, including newspaper and magazine India Today, Hindustan Times, Mint, Business Today, OPEN, Die Zeit, Seminar and Forbes.
