6th edition of the Simulated Hearing of the Court of Justice of the European Union – Minhota Section | May 18th

The European Union Law Studies Center (CEDU) and the European Law Students Association (ELSA-UMinho) organized the 6th edition of the Simulated Hearing of the Court of Justice of the European Union on 18 May 2016 ) – Minhota Section. Four teams composed of students of the 2nd year of the law degree competed, who, in a first phase of the competition, presented written observations on a practical case of EU environmental law and, at the hearing stage, defended arguments and were questioned by the members of the Court.

The Minhota Section of the ECJ was chaired by the Judge Counselor of the Supreme Administrative Court, Dr. Carlos Carvalho, and by the following members: Dr. Anabela Tenreiro (Judge of the Court of Appeal of Guimarães and student of the Masters Degree in European Union Law of UMinho); Dr. Helena Patrício (Judge in the District of Aveiro, ex-Judge of the CJEU and student of the Master in Law of the European Union of UMinho); Dr. Guilherme Figueiredo (Lawyer and Candidate for Bastonário of the Bar Association); João Cruz Ribeiro (Lawyer).

The winning students of the competition, Diana Dias and Mariana Pacheco, will conduct a study visit to the CJEU, organized by the office of Judge Counselor José Luís da Cruz Vilaça. The travel expenses will be kindly financed by the José Pedro Aguiar Branco Law Firm.

The activity was coordinated by Dr. Sophie Perez Fernandes (professor of European Union law) with the support of Joana Polónia (student of the 4th year of the degree in Law and one of the winners of the simulated hearing edition 2014
