On May 27th, CEDU researchers participated in the radio programme “O Estado da União” (a partnership between Centro de Informação Europe Direct Minho, Antena Minho and Correio do Minho). Apart from the intervention of Alessandra Silveira, resident commentator at the program and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law at UMinho, this episode counted on the participation of Pedro Froufe (coordinator of CEDU research group and director of the Department of the Public Legal Sciences at EDUM), and José Igreja Matos (Judge and President of the European Association of Judges).

Following a brief interruption due to the pandemic outbreak, the programme returned in a distance format addressing the following concerns: “How did the pandemic impact democracy and justice in the European Union? What about the future of Europe after the pandemic crisis?” At the time in which the European Commission put forward the proposal for the EU economic recovery fund (through the mobilization of resources from the issuance of debt by the Commission and the reinforcement of the European budget), the speakers were invited to envisage such a deepening of the federative components of European integration.

The radio programme “O Estado da União” is broadcast by Antena Minho (106.0 FM), on the last Wednesday of each month, at 7 pm, and aims to discuss the current European situation. The conversation is usually chaired by Alzira Costa, coordinator of the Centro de Informação Europe Direct Minho, and by Paulo Monteiro, Rádio Antena Minho Director.
