Ep. 12 – The world of artificial intelligence

The “Quid Juris Podcast” was created with the aim of discussing old and new challenges for the legal world, contributing to the development of new lines of scientific research.
This is a project of the School of Researchers of JusGov – Center for Research in Justice and Governance, of the School of Law of the University of Minho, in which, periodically, a personality with an important professional career is invited to open the discussion on prominent topics in the legal world.
The development of technology and, specifically, the emergence of artificial intelligence in the most varied areas of our lives, has posed a number of challenges for the law. This debate, convened at global level, is still in its infancy, but it deserves our attention. In a conversation dedicated to the world of artificial intelligence, we brought together two lawyers and a computer engineer to try to understand the contours of this new reality (or artificiality?).

Professor Nuno Sousa e Silva is a lecturer at the Porto School of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University, a lawyer, legal expert and arbitrator.
Professor Paulo Novais is a lecturer at the School of Engineering at the University of Minho and leads the ISLab laboratory at the ALGORITMI Center. He was awarded the “Career Recognition Award” by the Ibero-American Society of Artificial Intelligence (IBERAMIA) for his scientific contributions to artificial intelligence and the development of the community in this area (2022).
Professor Francisco Andrade is a lecturer at the Law School of the University of Minho, a researcher at JusGov and director of the “Master’s Course in Law and Informatics”. He is the author of several national and international publications, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence.
