Patrícia Jerónimo is Associate Professor at the Law School of the University of Minho. She has a doctoral degree in law from the European University Institute, where she graduated in 2008 with a thesis on citizenship and migration in Portugal against the background of the country’s European and Lusophone cultural and political ties. She is currently Principal Investigator of the FCT funded research project Equality and cultural difference in the practice of Portuguese courts: Challenges and opportunities for an inclusive society (InclusiveCourts), leading a multidisciplinary team of lawyers, anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists and linguistics. She is also involved in several international research projects, as country expert for Portugal and other Portuguese Speaking Countries, such as the Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT), of the European University Institute, where she is Regional Coordinator for Portuguese-Speaking Countries, and the project Varieties of Democracy (V-DEM), led by the University of Gothenburg, where she is Country Coordinator for Timor-Leste. Her main research interests are human rights, minority rights, citizenship, international migration, multiculturalism and legal pluralism. Between 2018 and 2021, she was the Director of the Research Centre for Justice and Governance (JusGov). In 2020, she was awarded the Prize for Scientific Merit by the University of Minho, for her research in the field of human rights, and, in 2021, she was distinguished by Ciência Viva as a Woman in Science in Portugal. In 2021, she was granted a Jean Monnet Fellowship for a one-year research stay at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute, in Florence, Italy.
