Sustainability is an unavoidable objective in today’s world. In 2015, the United Nations presented the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. From environmental policy to production and consumption, the demands of sustainability are imperative. Therefore, law must also integrate sustainability into its various normative frameworks. Legal dogmatics must consider it as a fundamental principle of the legal system and develop procedural means for its protection.

The Portuguese Chapter of the European Law Institute (ELI), established in August 2023, has chosen the theme “Multilevel Governance of Sustainability” for the period 2023-2026. As part of its activities (which can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/gGYpdaqV) the I Conference of the Portuguese Chapter of the ELI will take place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto on May 22, 2024. With the theme “The Challenges of Sustainability for Law,” it will feature distinguished Portuguese experts who will discuss the topic in three panels:

– 1. “Sustainability as a Principle”

– 2. “Climate Justice”

– 3. “Corporate and Consumer Sustainability”

This will be an opportunity for the Portuguese legal community to discuss a crucial issue that concerns us as both legal professionals and citizens. We invite all interested parties to participate.

Participation is free of charge, subject to registration through the form available at https://lnkd.in/gyb79PiP .
