SUMMARY:The enforcement of rights in the digital age: the role of the Ombudsman | 5 May | EDUM
DESCRIPTION:Under the motto “European Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles” (December 2022)\, the Justice and Governance Research Centre (JusGov) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence “Digital citizenship and technological sustainability: pursuing the effectiveness of the CFREU in the digital decade (CitDig)” organise a “Visit to the Academy” related to the role of the Ombudsman/Ombudsman in this new digital ecosystem. \nIt is important to assess which citizens’ complaints are possibly reaching the Ombudsman’s Office related to their participation in the digital public space; or to digital public services/online public administration; or to digital exclusion phenomena\, etc.\, as well as to compare the current “state of the art” in Portugal with what is happening in other latitudes with which we are familiar – namely Brazil. \nThe Federal Prosecutor’s Office for the Rights of the Citizen (Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office\, Brazil) will be represented by Carlos Alberto Vilhena (Federal Prosecutor for the Rights of the Citizen)\, as well as by Leyza Ferreira Domingues (International Advisor to the PFDC) and Allana Albuquerque Sousa Silva (Head of Communication at the PFDC). \nThe Portuguese Ombudsman Office will be represented by Ravi Pereira (Deputy Ombudsman)\, as well as by Cristina Sá Costa (Coordinator of the Law and International Relations Office) and Duarte Geraldes (Advisor). \nThe event will take place in the UMinho Law School\, on May 5\, 2023\, at 10am. The interaction of the speakers is moderated by Alessandra Silveira (CitDig Coordinator)\, being recorded on video and later made available in the “Espaço UNIO”\, taking into account the commitments made by UMinho with the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme. \n
