During Science and Technology Week, from November 18 to 24, 2024, science will once again be the main protagonist. This national initiative by Ciência Viva – National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, aims to raise awareness of scientists, what they research and their contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the well-being of society. There are hundreds of actions to disseminate science and technology organized by scientific institutions, universities, schools, museums and science centers across the country.
Lectures, exhibitions, science cafés or experimental activities are examples of initiatives organized for the public, especially young people, who will have the opportunity to get in touch with the scientific community and learn about some of the latest research results in various scientific areas.
JusGov (Justice and Governance Research Centre) of the UMinho School of Law is once again joining this fantastic initiative by organizing three events during S&T Week: Talking about… Research in Justice and Governance with the Junior Researchers who won the 2024 UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Award, on the role of the courts in protecting minorities and also on other important topics such as the design of more humane sentences; a colloquium on access to the legal professions with a Judge and General Secretary of the ASJP and a Lawyer moderated by a Researcher, which couldn’t have been more on the agenda in the midst of the recently announced bill to change entry to the Judiciary and finally an event on the role of communication in the activity of legal operators and research as a bridge with society, with the communicator and science communicator who co-hosts the program “Comunicar Ciência” on Rádio Antena Minho and the researcher and scientific coordinator of JusGov’s participation in S&T Week at a Science Café… legal!
Science and Technology Week includes the National Day of Scientific Culture, established on November 24th in honor of professor, poet and science communicator Rómulo de Carvalho, who was born on this date. The National Day of Scientific Culture was established in 1996, and the celebration of scientific culture was extended to a week the following year.
