Synopsis Since 1983, I have dedicated myself professionally and academically to researching the measure of punishment (from the perspective of consistency in the application of penalties as well as in the conditions imposed by the judges) and also to developing means of eliminating the unjustified disparity in the application of penalties and the prosecution’s role in this. This interest was at the source of ample research and interventions connected over the years (which are nonetheless still appropriate in the future) not withstanding the difficulties posed by sentencing guidelines, and their cross-over into the Anglo- Saxon context, but by regarding them as means to contribute to the reduction of unwarranted disparities in the application of penalties.
