Synopsis With this work, we intend to make some considerations about the structure of legal support & aid in Portugal, through historical evolution, the legal framework and the study of comparative law. This study pretends to analyze the Portuguese legal aid system, exploring problems and theoretical difficulties that arise from its daily appliance. After a brief look throughout previous legislation, we will study the transformation of a judicial benefit into a social profit and analyzing its effects. This research examines the implications of building a web of complementary legal services and illustrates the path to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of the legal aid system. The present study explores, in the context of legal aid, the current paradigm noting the advantages and disadvantages and comparing with new organizational models of legal aid, dedicating to the analysis of quality and effectiveness of legal representation alongside our study aimed to explore other organizational models of legal aid. Lastly, despite the fact that this does not close the subject, we conclude pointing directions, leaving some critics about the fragility of the system, but mostly sharing thoughts on the matter.
