JusGov researcher Prof. Patrícia Jerónimo lectured on the legal framework of human rights in Portugal. JusGov’s assistant researcher, Gema Souto, also took part in the open class.

On February 23 and under the Erasmus + KA122-SCH “Agents of Change” program, the students and their teachers Maria-Ismini Chrysanthou, Stelios
Zaproudis and Eleni Kontou, from Menemeni “Dido Sotiriou” Secondary School, were part of the Greek delegation that made a stop at the School of Law (EDUM) as part of its plan of activities related to the program’s central themes of minorities and human rights in the European Union.

The day began with a visit to the EDUM library where the figure of Dr. Francisco Salgado Zenha was remembered, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, and his activity as a human rights lawyer before the April 25 Revolution.

Next, JusGov Researcher and Member of the Board of the Master’s in Human Rights, Prof. Dr. Patrícia Jerónimo, gave an open lecture on Human Rights in Portugal: Legal and institutional framework and key areas of concern. The class was also attended by JusGov’s assistant researcher, Dr. Gema Souto, who raised issues such as the similarities and differences with the protection of human rights in Spain, namely the existence of the “recurso de amparo” before the Spanish Constitutional Court. It was a lively two hours of questions and debate. Finally, the Greek delegation and the JusGov researchers had lunch in the University canteen and said goodbye to the students and teachers who had visited us and then enjoyed a stroll around the city of Braga after a very fruitful visit to the School of Law.
