Citizenship and Solidarity in the European Union – from the Charter to the Crisis, the state of the art | May 10th and 12th

The CEDU candidature for ERDF co-financing was approved for the holding of cultural and scientific international events (QREN – Program ON.2 – Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the North). The International Colloquium entitled “Citizenship and Solidarity in the European Union – from the Charter to the Crisis, the state of the art” took place at the Law School of the University of Minho (EDUM) in Braga between 10 and 12 May 2012.

In connection with the economic and financial crisis and its implications for fundamental rights protected by the European Union, the following issues related to:
1) democracy / citizenship
2) development / competitiveness
3) interconstitutionality / political identity
4) equality / solidarity
5) culture / diversity

The Scientific Committee of the colloquium (composed of members outside the University of Minho) is composed of: Anabela Rodrigues, Jorge Miranda, JJ Gomes Canotilho, José Luís da Cruz Vilaça, Manuel Porto, Miguel Poiares Maduro, Paulo Ferreira da Cunha, Viriato Soromenho- Marques. The Executive Committee of the colloquium (composed of members of CEDU) is composed of: Alessandra Silveira, Cláudia Viana, Luís Couto Gonçalves, Mariana Canotilho, Mário Monte, Pedro Froufe, Teresa Carballeira Rivera.

They are financial partners of CEDU in this project: Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP / São Paulo / Brazil), Università degli Studi di Sassari / Facoltà di Giurisprudenza (Sardinia / Italy), PLMJ Law Firm, University of Minho Law Students Association , Union of the Public Ministry and European Capital of Culture – Guimarães 2012. The application was supported by the following technical and scientific opinions: European Parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Diplomatic Institute), Jacques Delors European Information Center, Union of Portuguese Judges, Union of Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Porto District Council of the Bar Association, University of Santiago de Compostela.

The partnership with Università degli Studi of Sassari / Facoltà di Giurisprudenza is part of the project “Public Policies and the Economy of Culture: Legal Instruments and Economic Models for Cultural Services”, financed by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, under Regional Law no. 7, of August
