APDE (Portuguese Association of European Law)
The Center signed a protocol with the APDE (Portuguese Association of European Law), national representative of FIDE (International Federation of European Law). FIDE is responsible for organizing the most prestigious conference on European Union law – the FIDE Congress – which converges on the publication of the national reports of the Member States.
Association of Portuguese Judges
A protocol was signed with the Trade Union Association of Portuguese Judges, under which young investigators support judicial magistrates, especially in regard to collection of case law, in disputes involving the application of Union law.
The Center for Legal Studies of Minho (C.E.J.U.R.) is a private, non-profit association of unlimited duration, whose members include, among others, the University of Minho, the Minho Industrial Association and the Municipality of Braga.
It was created on November 26th of 1993 with its headquarters in Braga. C.E.J.U.R. aims to develop legal studies by promoting the initiatives they deem most appropriate, such as study groups, research work and conferences and seminars.
Since 2009, CEJUR has its headquarters in the building of the School of Law; where its administrative services and its documentation center are located.
Currently, its facilities are on Floor 0 (room 0010) of the respective building.

Court of Justice of the European Union
Every year, CEDU organizes, with the support of the services of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), study visits to the European Union Law Masters, supported by the Trade Union of Portuguese Judges, Public Prosecution Union and Porto District Council of the Bar Association. At these study visits, Master’s students have the opportunity to attend hearings, attend conferences specifically designed for them, interact with members of the Court and attend the library. In addition, the best students of the MSc will in training for a period of 3 months in the office of Judges of the Court of Justice.
The Fulbright Commission held on April 5 the signing ceremony of two new cooperation protocols with Portuguese higher education institutions, for American Professors and Researchers who came to teach under the Fulbright Program, the Fulbright Awards.
The protocol that refers to the Fulbright Award in Law / University of Minho with the University of Minho allows American Professors to carry out teaching and research activities in the area of Law (Juridical Theory and Jurisprudence) at the Law School of the University of Minho.

Joint European Master – European Integration Law and Policy
As a result of the partnership between CEDU and the UAB Study Center on Human Rights (and the Jean Monnet Chairs assigned to the directors of both centers – Alessandra Silveira and Teresa Freixes), CEDU members have collaborated with Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, within the framework of the Joint European Master’s “Law and Policies of European Integration: European Constitutional Law and Multilevel Constitutionalism”. This is a multi-lingual program which is the result of a consortium between Université Montpellier, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Università Degli Studi di Milano and Uniwersytet Szczecinski.
Within the framework of this partnership, Alessandra Silveira was in July 2014 at the Università Degli Studi di Milano (Dipartimento di Studi Internazionali, Giuridici and Storico-Politici), where she was a member of the jury of the following Masters thesis:
- Gender based violence in the context of European Union (Miriam Cardona)
- The refugees’ integration between European guarantees and domestic policies (Giulia Colombo)

Magellan (Association for the Representation of Portuguese Interests Abroad)
Finally, CEDU has established a partnership with Magellan (Association for the Representation of Portuguese Interests Abroad) aimed at the development of joint actions in matters that affect the functioning of the European Union. Magellan has significant experience in representing national interests in the Union’s institutions, bodies, offices and agencies, as well as obtaining relevant information on European legislative decision-making processes. Within the framework of this partnership, Magellan provides bimonthly internships for CEDU researchers recruited from among the best students of the EU Law Masters.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The partnership is intended to increase Portugal’s participation in the European Union’s litigation, in particular in referral to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). The protocol also involves universities located in Lisbon – Classical, New and Catholic – and was signed on April 4, 2014, in the State Protocol, Palácio das Necessidades, followed by lunch with the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Professor Rui Machete.
The DGAE ensures the representation of the Portuguese State in the CJEU and coordinates the definition of the Portuguese position in all cases that are of interest to Portugal pending before the European Union courts. To that extent, the purpose of the protocol is technical and legal cooperation between DGAE and CEDU in the preparation of procedural documents to be submitted by the Portuguese Republic. On the other hand, DGAE undertakes to provide traineeships to CEDU researchers, including the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union (REPER) in Brussels.
The Lusophone Observatory for Human Rights – OLDHUM was created on October 23, 2009 and, by resolution of the Scientific Council of the Law School of the University of Minho, was authorized to have its headquarters at this School and to have at its Directorate a Professor appointed by that Scientific Council.
OLDHUM has as its founding partners, in addition to the group of individuals who have agreed to join efforts for its creation, the AJPD-Justice Peace and Democracy Association (Angola), the Association for Solidarity and Development Zé Moniz (Cape Verde), the League (Guinea-Bissau) and the Observatory on Human Rights, Democracy and Citizenship (Guinea-Bissau), and is open to signing protocols for partnerships and cooperation with other Lusophone or foreign associations or entities.
Porto District Council of the Portuguese Bar Association
A protocol was signed with the PortoDistrict Council of the Bar Association, under which continuing education in matters of Union law is guaranteed through courses periodically organized by both entities.

Protocols have been established with law firms (VdA and PLMJ), which have received and receive researchers from CEDU as trainees, so that they can contact the most varied material areas of Union law.

UMINHO / UNIVALI
Imbued with the spirit of solidarity and co-responsibility that should guide scientific and academic activity, the University of Minho / Braga / Portugal and the University of Vale do Itajaí / Santa Catarina / Brazil have signed a cooperation protocol in the field of teaching and research postgraduate in Law, with the intention of pursuing the following activities:
- Joint research projects with the aim of producing scientific papers and publications;
- Conducting conferences and seminars alternately in both universities involved
- Creation of a shared chair, entitled “European Union Law and Transnationality – UMINHO / UNIVALI Chair”, carried out by professors of both institutions and ministered alternately in each of said universities.
Within the framework of this partnership, a double degree agreement was established between the University of Minho and the University of the Vale do Itajaí, in force from the academic year 2013/2014, under which students of the Master in Law of the European Union can attending curricular units and receiving a Master’s degree from the aforementioned Brazilian university. In the same way and for the same purposes, Brazilian students are received in the Master in Law of the European Union of the University of Minho.
In the academic year 2009/2010, the Law School of the University of Minho offered to the students of the 2nd cycle a series of seminars integrated in the mentioned Chair. This project of research and postgraduate education in Law was financed by the Jean Monnet Actions (the most prestigious sources of funding in the field of research in European Union law, as they are supported by the European Commission), which confirms the excellence of the concerned. This chair was coordinated by Profª. Dr. Alessandra Silveira and with the collaboration of internationally recognized researchers, especially the University of Vale do Itajaí / Brazil, partner of the University of Minho in this project that has become an extraordinary example of good practices in the field of international scientific cooperation.
